With three days to go until the Western Bulldogs’ round one clash against Geelong, we take a look at some stats involving number three – with help from AFL Media’s Gemma Bastiani.
3 – Number of interstate trips this season
The Bulldogs will travel interstate three times this season, heading to the Gold Coast, Adelaide and Perth.
The AFLW Dogs have been successful in each of these states in recent times, winning two of three games in SA, two from two in WA and drawing once in QLD in the past three seasons.
3 – Winning margin of two games in season seven
For the first time in Club history, the AFLW Bulldogs won two games by three points in season seven – defeating Fremantle at IKON Park in round three, and Carlton at IKON Park in round 10 to solidify their finals spot.
Prior to last season, the Dogs had never won a game by this margin.
3 – Number of league debutants last season
Three debutants played their maiden AFLW games in season seven – then-teens Rylie Wilcox, Heidi Woodley and Keely Coyne.
The trio all impressed in their debut campaigns, made even more remarkable due to the fact they were in the midst of Year 12 and exams.
This year, another three Bulldogs are in line to make their league debuts – recruits Bree McFarlane, Dom Carruthers and Maggie Gorham.
33 – Number of kicks recorded by Alice Edmonds
They say good things come in threes, and that couldn’t be more true for emerging ruck Alice Edmonds.
There’s no denying her career-best season last year, with the no. 33 finishing third in the Best and Fairest count and named in the All Australian squad.
In terms of stats, Edmonds recorded 33 kicks while laying 51 tackles – the most of any player to also record more than 150 hit-outs.
