Western Bulldogs forwards coach Kate McCarthy says the team will take plenty of lessons out of their AFLW practice match ahead of the season proper.
The Bulldogs will launch their 2023 campaign against the Cats at GMHBA Stadium next Saturday night.
Speaking post-practice match, McCarthy said moving on from the loss as quickly as possible will be important.
“It’s obviously not the result we wanted today, but we’ll learn what we can out of it while really enjoying these last two weeks of preseason as we gear up for round one,” she said of the 63-point defeat.
“We want to try and get our first win (in round one) – obviously going down on the road to GMHBA won’t be an easy task, but we’ll prepare well for that and try and put our gameplan together.
“We probably haven’t been able to (put our gameplan) together for full quarters or full halves so far in our preseason matches, so that’s what we really need to put together for round one. Hopefully we can do that.”
McCarthy said a silver lining to the loss was that there is plenty to learn and fine-tune ahead of the Cats-clash.
“I think there’s a lot of things we can take out of it,” she said.
“(North) did get away from us in the first quarter, but we were able to wrestle back momentum pretty well in the second half especially.
“Only conceding the two goals was really impressive – our ability to regroup and learn from this, taking as much as we can out of it (is crucial).
“The good thing is that we have two weeks ahead of round one now – so we’ll learn what we can but move on nice and quickly so we’re ready for round one against the Cats.”
