Western Bulldogs members and fans will this week hear the commentators calling another familiar name when young gun Mitch Wallis takes to the field in his debut senior game against Freemantle. 28 years after his father, former Bulldogs skipper Steve Wallis, made his VFL debut, the younger Wallis is already showing the kind of popularity usually reserved for seasoned stars.

Best on ground for the Calder Cannons in the 2010 TAC Cup Grand Final, Wallis is a versatile midfielder and a prized father-son selection for the Club. Assistant coach Paul Williams describes the 18 year-old as a hard worker who has the desire and drive to improve. “We’re very impressed with his work ethic. He’s doing everything right and we’re looking forward to seeing his development over the coming year.”

Wallis follows two Western Bulldogs’ greats in slipping on the revered number ‘3’ guernsey: Ted Whitten Snr and Chris Grant. Time will soon tell if Wallis will join them as a Club legend.
