Western Bulldogs utility Robert Murphy will be at the Kennel until the end of 2014, after it was announced he has extended his contract with the Club by one-year.

In the midst of his 14th pre-season with the Bulldogs, the All-Australia defender told The Age that re-signing was a straight-forward decision for him to make.

''I've been asked a few times,'Would you ever consider going to a side in that premiership window?' And it just didn't sit well with me to do that,'' Murphy said.

''I'm not going to judge people who have done it - good luck to them. But it's just not for me. The Bulldogs are my footy club and part of who I am and it means more to me to help the Bulldogs. If it's not me [who wins a premiership], well, that's just the way it goes. But I'm going to put my energy into helping the Bulldogs win their next one.''

After starting his career as a lead-up forward before a successful switch to defence, Murphy also revealed that a return forward could be on the cards for him in season 2013.

Senior coach Brendan McCartney has indicated to the 30-year-old that he would like to use him more in an attacking role next season.

''I'm not sure if I'll be a permanent forward … but I think you will see up there a fair bit, probably more than the back-line.''
