The Western Bulldogs are mixing it up in the pre-season, alternating between skills sessions, defensive drills and running trials to simultaneously address a number of key areas.

Adam Cooney said the pre-season was beginning to step up a gear this week, with kicking efficiency high on the agenda.

“We have been ramping it up a little bit this week - we probably do 45 minutes to an hour of skills,” Cooney said.

“We are doing a lot of ball work [and] we are working on our kicking efficiency a lot.

“We take measurements of how many kicks hit the targets and good kicks… I think that was an area we really needed to improve.”

His teammates have also been working hard to sharpen their defensive skills across all areas of the ground, as well as building their fitness levels to play out the full four quarters in 2013.

“We are doing a lot of work on our defensive side of our game as well which is what we really need to improve,” he said.

“Then at the end we build up our fitness base with some running… we are mixing it up pretty well and the guys are running really well.”
