BARRY Hall leads a list of six potential inclusions for the Western Bulldogs this week for their clash with Hawthorn at Etihad Stadium while experienced defender Lindsay Gilbee is one of three players dropped to the VFL.

Coach Rodney Eade last week again threatened to wield the axe on his line up after the Dogs' embarrassing 123-point loss to West Coast at Patersons Stadium, and followed up by culling 195-gamer Gilbee, Jarrad Grant and Brennan Stack from the side.

He told Bulldogs TV on Thursday night the trio was dumped for a lack of "consistency with effort", and didn't rule out further senior omissions when the squad was trimmed on Friday.

Hall returns from the ankle injury that kept him out for three weeks while Nathan Djerrkura has been included in the squad after knocking on the door of the senior side over the past few weeks.

Josh Hill played well for Williamstown last week and Mitch Wallis has been in the Seagulls' best for the past two, which gave them a ticket back into the squad, while Sam Reid could play his first game since round 14 last year with Eade considering the worth of his run and hardness against the Hawks.

The Dogs' top draftee from 2009 Christian Howard will play his first game after being named in the starting 18.

"He's worked very hard. Last season in his first year he had a couple of hip operations and was very limited in his preparation," Eade said.

"This year he's worked very hard and his performances at Williamstown have been very pleasing."

Howard was recruited by the Dogs with selection No.15 two years ago but spent the first half of his debut season recovering from the hip problems that he had prior to joining the club.

He was playing Williamstown seniors by the end of the season and even trained with the Bulldogs during the AFL finals - including a session at the MCG - to give him a taste of the big league.

Full back Brian Lake remains out of the side and is expected to play in the VFL this weekend while Adam Cooney will miss again with knee soreness.

Eade said there was a determination within the club to atone for last week's awful performance against the Eagles, which saw the home side kick 17 of the game's last 18 goals.

"Obviously it was a very disappointing game last week. There's been a lot of discussion publicly and internally about the performance," he said.

"All I can tell the supporters is the way we've trained this week and the embarrassment of last week it won't repeat itself and the players and staff have vowed we'll have a 100 per cent effort for four quarters and not two and a half."

Daniel Giansiracusa will play his 200th career game on Sunday.
