Western Bulldogs premiership player Bailey Hunt says the group can take plenty of confidence into Sunday’s elimination final showdown against the Pies.

The Bulldogs won their final three games of season seven to secure a top-eight spot, marking a return to the finals for the first time since the 2018 flag.

“The past two seasons we’ve just sort of missed out on finals, sitting just outside that top six, so it’s really good this year that we’re in it and back playing finals footy,” Hunt told SEN on Wednesday afternoon.

“We’ve never shied away from wanting to get back to finals – it was definitely a goal for the group at the start of the season.

“Who knows how far you’ll go. You’ve just got to have that belief.

“You’ve sort of seen with this group already over the past few seasons, that it’s pretty special when we get going.

“We’ve had some really good wins against quality opposition – and we have belief in ourselves regardless of those on the outside looking in.

“As long as we believe in each other, anything is achievable.”

Hunt said the group’s three straight losses wasn’t all doom and gloom either, as it allowed the team to reset and identify areas of improvement ahead of the run home.

“The other week, Burkey mentioned to us that you don’t want to be playing your best football at the start of the season. I suppose that’s with any sport – you want to be hitting your straps towards the end of the season when finals are coming up,” she said.

“That patch in the middle of the season (where we lost three straight) probably brought us back down to earth and was a reality check for some stuff we identified we needed to improve on.

“Having the past three wins in the lead-up to finals too, is really good for our confidence and knowing what we’re capable of doing.

“We’re reaping the rewards now and playing some really good footy together – I can only really see improvement from here.”
