Not for the first time, the Bulldogs were entangled in late drama in the Continental Tyres AFL Trade Period.
As the deadline inched closer to finish another action-packed player movement period, it was clear the busiest group at Marvel Stadium was the Bulldogs’ list and recruiting team.
In the closing half-hour of the eight-day period, the Dogs welcomed Rory Lobb while seeing Josh Dunkley depart to his desired destination in Brisbane.
It mirrored the franticness of trade periods past, where days of negotiations culminated in deals being finalised in the final 30 minutes – and on one occasion final 60 seconds – before deadline.
After a week of minimal movement in 2019, 16 trades were made on the final day, with the Bulldogs involved in two of them.
With 20 minutes to spare and not long after welcoming Josh Bruce to the Kennel, the Dogs struck a deal with Adelaide for key defender Alex Keath.
A year later, confirmation of Adam Treloar’s final-minute move came well past the 7.30pm AEDT deadline, with the gun midfielder coming across from Collingwood on a five-year deal.
In addition to Lobb this time around, the Bulldogs also acquired Liam Jones and pick 21 in the upcoming national draft to go with their existing picks 11, 39 and 69.
They also received an abundance of future picks, including Brisbane’s future first and second, and a pair of future-fourths tied to Geelong and Melbourne.
The next stage of the Continental Tyres AFL Trade Period will commence on Thursday 3 November, when the Delisted Free Agency period opens at 9am.
