With the 2022 AFL Trade Period well underway, we’re looking back at some current players who started their AFL careers at different clubs.

Taylor Duryea

Hawthorn, 2010-18

Duryea arrived at VU Whitten Oval in exchange for a future fourth-round selection during the 2018 trade period, after spending nine seasons at Hawthorn. The two-time premiership defender added speed and craftiness to the Bulldogs’ back six, fitting in seamlessly to play 14 senior games in his debut red, white and blue season. He has since represented the Bulldogs on 54 occasions, bringing his career tally to 172 games, and was elevated to the leadership group for season 2022.

Alex Keath

Adelaide, 2016-19

Keath became a Bulldog in the final half-hour of the 2019 Trade Period, with the Crows receiving a third-rounder and future second-rounder as part of the deal. Courageous and strong in the contest, Keath initially began his professional sports career as a cricketer before turning to footy. He played 30 matches for Adelaide before requesting a trade home to Victoria, and has managed 56 games in the red, white and blue across three seasons.

Josh Bruce

GWS, 2012-13

St Kilda, 2014-19

Bruce arrived at his third AFL club during the 2019 trade period, with the Dogs offloading picks 32 and 51 in exchange for the key forward. His career began at GWS, originally selected as an ACT zone selection in 2010, before being traded to St Kilda at the end of the 2013 season. Coming across as an experienced leader for emerging forwards Aaron Naughton and Jamarra Ugle-Hagan, Bruce has played 155 games across the three clubs, including 42 in the red, white and blue to go with 63 goals.

Adam Treloar

GWS, 2012-15

Collingwood, 2016-20

Treloar became a Bulldog in infamous fashion at the end of the season, with the deal completed in the final minute of the trade period. The Bulldogs sent pick No.14 and a future second-round selection to the Magpies in exchange for Treloar, also receiving picks 26, 33 and 42 in return. Like Bruce, Treloar also started his AFL career at the Giants, playing 79 games before moving to Collingwood where he played a further 94 matches. Since then he has managed 39 outings in the red, white and blue, adding even more composure and experience to the Bulldogs’ on-ball brigade.

Mitch Hannan

Melbourne, 2017-20

Hannan had his request fulfilled in the 2020 trade period, with the Bulldogs handing over a future third-round selection to Melbourne. A homecoming of sorts after playing VFL for Footscray prior to being drafted, Hannan has added 24 games to his career tally since arriving at the Kennel, playing a number of different on-field roles for the Club. Delayed concussion symptoms sidelined him for most of the season gone by, but returned late in the year to build back into some form.
