Teenage Bulldog Rhylee West has capped an impressive debut season by finishing runner-up in the VFL’s JJ Liston Trophy on Monday night. 

West, the 19-year-old midfielder-forward who joined the Western Bulldogs as a father-son draftee last year, polled 17 votes in the VFL’s best and fairest count. 

He averaged 20.1 disposals and kicked 13 goals across his 15 games at VFL level, before making his AFL debut in round 19 against Fremantle

Footscray’s next best was Bailey Dale, with six votes. Ben Cavarra, Callum Porter and Lukas Webb all polled five.

The JJ Liston Trophy was won by Werribee’s Tom Gribble with 25 votes, while former Bulldog Tom Campbell collected 15 votes for North Melbourne to place third.

VFL-listed Bulldog Anthony Scott also featured prominently at the awards night.

Scott was named in the VFL Team of the Year on a half-forward flank, and was one of five finalists for the Fothergill-Round-Mitchell Medal – the VFL’s Rising Star award. 

The Western Bulldogs VFLW will play in a grand final in a fortnight’s time against either Collingwood or the Southern Saints, but remarkably had no individual standout in the Lambert-Pearce Medal voting – with no player collecting more than six votes.

AFLW duo Bailey Hunt and Brooke Lochland each polled six votes, with a further three Bulldogs earning five. 

Darebin’s Lauren Pearce took home the honour with 18 votes, followed by former Bulldog Monique Conti on 16. 

Ellie Gavalas represented the Bulldogs in the VFLW Team of the Year, named on the interchange bench.

Caroline Kilmartin won the Ann Rulton Award, for outstanding volunteer service.
