FORMER Essendon and Geelong midfielder Brent Prismall hopes to secure the final spot on the Western Bulldogs' list after being granted permission to train with the club.

Following the signing of former Port Adelaide and Fremantle midfielder Nick Lower, Prismall is vying with ex-Melbourne forward Matthew Bate and VFL stars Ben Duscher and Brett Goodes for the last remaining place on the Dogs' list ahead of the NAB AFL Pre-season Draft next Tuesday.

The 26-year-old, who has played 61 games in an injury-ravaged AFL career, trained at Whitten Oval for the first time on Monday.

Last week he trained at Port Adelaide under former Cats assistant Ken Hinkley, but jumped at the prospect of continuing his football in Melbourne under Brendan McCartney, with whom he had worked at both Geelong and Essendon.

The lure of home was apparently a factor in Prismall's decision. He grew up in the western suburb of Werribee, where his parents still reside.

Meanwhile, the Dogs have quashed a rumour that they had offered an Irish hurler an international rookie contract.
