Undefeated still, the Western Bulldogs have claimed the four points in their round five clash against the Darebin Falcons on Saturday afternoon, securing a 28-point win at VU Whitten Oval.
A three-goal to none first half saw the Bulldogs start the game with great confidence. AFLW-listed onballer Kirsty Lamb looked dangerous in her return to VFLW football with some explosive attacking bursts through the middle of the ground.
Ellie Gavalas’ first goal of the season was the only points on the board for either side in the first quarter, handing the Bulldogs a lead of that margin at the first break.
The forward pressure built in the second quarter with Bulldogs captain Mickayla Ward converting an intercept mark inside forward 50 into a set-shot goal. Sarah Jolly soon followed with an impressive finish on her left foot to extend the home side’s advantage to 20 points at half time.
Darebin kicked their solitary goal in the third quarter and held the Bulldogs goalless in, but the Bulldogs responded in the fourth quarter with two goals to none, through a bit of Mary Sandral magic and a Hayley Wildes long-bomb from outside 50.
Next Saturday (15 June) the Bulldogs head across town to Ikon Park to take on Carlton, with the match commencing at 10:30am.
