Western Bulldogs AFLW coach Nathan Burke says his players ‘can’t wait’ for Tuesday night’s opportunity to bounce back from its Round 4 defeat to GWS.

After having their previous two games postponed due to AFL Health and Safety Protocols, the Bulldogs will squeeze in a midweek replacement game against Fremantle at VU Whitten Oval, just four days after travelling to take on the Giants.

After missed opportunities on Friday evening left the team to rue what might have been, Burke and his determined squad are keen to make amends.

“In some ways, when you play a game like that and you lose, one of the worst things to say to yourself is ’I’ve got to wait seven days before I can atone for that sort of performance’,” Burke told media after the game.

“The good news is we get four days to atone for the performance, and the girls have gone ‘yeah, can’t wait to get back out there again’.

“Nobody expects us to beat Fremantle.  They’re a very, very good side.  We get to be the underdogs, we get to go in with a nothing-to-lose attitude.

“Teams are dangerous with that sort of thing.”

Against the Giants, Burke said a slow start was compounded by missed chances, despite the players giving everything they could physically to fight back.

“We started off like we had 20 days away, to be totally honest.  We were very rusty,” he said.

“But we worked our way into the game good enough to get the result, but we couldn’t capitalise.

“We never put scoreboard pressure on the Giants.  It’s such an important thing in a game like this.  We weren’t able to do it.”
