Round 5 2021
Western Bulldogs 7.5 (47) def GWS 3.4 (22)
It was the Bonnie Toogood and Izzy Huntington show last time the Bulldogs faced GWS. The 25-point victory was off the back of the pair kicking three goals each to propel the red, white and blue to a fourth-straight victory. Kirsty Lamb led the way in the midfield with 20 touches.
TALKING POINTS
Returning stars
After two weeks of COVID-19 disruptions, many players will return to the track post-isolation. Recovery and rest have been key for all players and staff, as they look to nab their first victory of season 2022.
Forward plans
While the loss of Izzy Huntington to a season-ending knee injury will no doubt leave a hole in attack, expect some young stars to step up in her absence. Nell Morris-Dalton has impressed early, while Bonnie Toogood should provide a focal point at stages.
Bennetts to face former club
Dual athlete Elle Bennetts looks set to play against her former side for the first time this weekend. The defender crossed to the Kennel during the off-season and was one of the Bulldogs best in Round 1 with 12 touches and six tackles. Bennetts was a strong contributor at the Giants for several seasons, claiming the Club’s Rising Star Award in her first season and making the 2020 All-Australian Squad of 40 in 2020.
New venue, same Dogs
The Bulldogs will travel to Henson Park for the very first time on Friday. The iconic ground is one of three venues for GWS, who also play at Blacktown International Sportspark and Manuka Oval in Canberra.
