When opportunity knocked, Marc Webb couldn’t say no to the Western Bulldogs.

After closing out the season for the Western Australian Under 19s program, the prospect of making the move to Whitten Oval became a reality for the former WAFL star, taking over as midfield and stoppages coach.

“(It was) a great opportunity at a club that is in a good position and worked really hard over the past 3-4 years,” Webb said.

“A professional outfit like the Western Bulldogs have really been able to lead the way over the past few years – both on and off the field – so it is exciting.”

“I’ve really enjoyed it so far. Everyone has been so welcoming and coming off a long Christmas break it has been good to get stuck in and hit the ground running.”

Webb comes to the Bulldogs after stints coaching in the WAFL, at Fremantle FC and with up-and-coming stars in WA.

“I started out coaching in the WAFL – coaching Claremont FC for a few years and then was lucky enough to get into the system at Fremantle,” he said.

“I was at Freo for seven years in a variety of roles as midfield coach before taking on head of development. I spent the last year at the WA Football Commission coaching the State U19s – hopefully that puts me in good stead.”

The new role will oversee the exciting midfield group, combined with insight into stoppages and craft around the football.

“Working with the group has been a real positive to start with,” he said. “I’ve got to spend a fair bit of time with them (midfield group) over the past week or two.”

“It is a really exciting group – but the real pleasure is the depth in there. What I have already noticed is the ability of the group of guys to work together and help drive each other.”

“They are really level about everything we are trying to achieve and the key focuses of our game that we bring to life.”

“Before we know it the season will start – they’ve really welcomed me, and I am looking forward to the next few weeks getting to know them even more.”
