Livewire forward Cody Weightman took his football to new heights in 2021 – both figuratively and literally.
After managing just three games last year, the 20-year-old returned to AFL level with 12 disposals and three goals in the Bulldogs’ round nine win over Port Adelaide.
Consolidating his spot in the team with 14 touches, six marks and two goals the following week against St Kilda, it was clear he could play.
Weightman went on to add a further 14 career games to his name – including three finals - while slotting 26 goals to finish fourth on the Bulldogs’ goalkicking leaderboard.
He kicked four goals in both round 16 against North Melbourne and the elimination final win over Essendon, hitting the scoreboard in all but two of his matches.
Weightman was nominated for the 2021 Four’N Twenty Mark of the Year twice, using Melbourne ruck Max Gawn (round 19) and Port Adelaide ruck Scott Lycett (round 23) as step-ladders.
He also earned a 2021 rebel Goal of the Year nomination in round nine, for a miraculous over-his-head snap from the goal-square.
From the retro 2011 membership cap he rocks off-field, to his high-flying leaps and marks on-field, Weightman has quickly become a fan favourite.
And with so much football still ahead of him, will be sure to continue entertaining the Bulldogs’ faithful in 2022 and beyond.
