Retired Western Bulldog Lin Jong has received a final honour in recognition of his time at VU Whitten Oval, specifically for his work in the community.
Jong was awarded the annual John Schultz Community Award at the Charles Sutton Medal virtual event on Wednesday night, recognising his tireless off-field work with the people of the west.
“Every AFL player dreams to leave a legacy on the field, but there are some whose impact reaches far beyond the footy field,” said Western Bulldogs Community Foundation General Manager of Community & Government Relations, Kashif Bouns.
“Lin was one such player, who was a trailblazer for Asian junior footballers dreaming of making their way to the elite level.
“While he was an initially reluctant role model, Lin has had a strong sense of community and always wanted to give back, as an AFL Multicultural Ambassador or as an ambassador for East Timor Hearts Fund.”

“Lin has been a passionate ambassador for the Western Bulldogs Community Foundation and has contributed to a number of our programs, most notably as a mentor for our GOAL program for young African Australians.”
Jong remains a vocal advocate for mental health, and he will feature in the Foundation’s Mental Health Matters webinar on the October 11, as part of National Mental Health Month.
Jong retired from AFL football in August this year, after a decade-long career at VU Whitten Oval.
