Williamstown have recorded their first win away from Burbank Oval for the season, defeating Frankston by 30 points at Frankston Oval on the weekend.

In a game that ebbed and flowed with both teams getting on runs at certain stages of the match, the Seagulls were able to steady the ship late and cement a 20.11 (131) to 15.11 (101) victory.

Williamstown created a 43-point buffer late in the third term, but seven unanswered goals from the Dolphins got the margin back to within two points by the mid-way point of the final quarter.

However, the Seagulls were able to arrest the momentum back in their favour late in the term, booting the last four goals of the match to notch win number four of the year.

The match was the second time in a row that Williamstown has held off a fast-finishing opponent late in the match, defeating Collingwood in similar fashion in round five.

Second gamer Kirby McConnon continued where he left off in his debut against Collingwood, kicking four goals up forward while Bulldog tall Fletcher Roberts provided a key marking target around the ground and recorded seven inside 50’s to go along with his 20 disposals.

The match opened up progressively more as it went on, with both sides taking time to adjust to the wet and slippery ground conditions caused from an earlier downpour of rain.

While McConnon and Lachlan Hunter (three goals) provided the most scoreboard pressure, Williamstown were buoyed by having 13 individual goal kickers in what ended as a great team effort in unfamiliar territory.

With the first away win now safely tucked under their belt, the Seagulls now play host to Bendigo Gold this Saturday at Burbank Oval in a bid to make it three wins in a row.
