Matthew Boyd is once again poised to lead the Western Bulldogs in the Brownlow Medal polling after a stellar season and while he is only an outside chance for the prestigious honour he is still likely to feature in the round by round voting.

The Bulldogs have a rich history in the Brownlow Medal Award with ten recipients in the Club’s existence - five of which between the years of 1975 - 1992.

The most recent Brownlow Medallist to wear the Red, White and Blue is none other than Adam Cooney who took out the award in 2008.

Since that season Boyd has fronted the Bulldogs charge leading the Club’s voting every year including a career high 24 votes last season to place equal third.

A Bulldog with the potential to overtake Boyd in the voting at tonight’s event is Ryan Griffen who played an influential role in a number of games including breaking a Club record with 47 disposals in round 21.

Afl.com.au’s Brownlow Predictor has both Griffen and Boyd sitting just outside the top 20 overall but only time will tell if they can provide more of a challenge in the actual vote.

A lot will be determined by how the duo can score in the Bulldogs’ wins in rounds four, five, seven, eight and 12 without stealing votes off each other.

Betting agencies have Boyd at $126 to win with Griffen not too far behind at $251 while a number of fellow Bulldogs have stretched odds from $1001.

Other Bulldogs likely to poll votes are Brian Lake, Luke Dahlhaus and Robert Murphy, while Tom Liberatore, Tory Dickson and Mitch Wallis could all be in line to secure the first Brownlow votes of their careers.
