Western Bulldogs senior coach Luke Beveridge says the group needs to draw on what they are capable of and what have achieved this season, ahead of Sunday’s elimination final.

The Bulldogs will look to rectify their last three weeks of footy – which has seen defeats to Essendon, Hawthorn and Port Adelaide - when they meet the Bombers once again in a do-or-die clash at UTAS Stadium.

Beveridge said there’s no denying the team was disappointed with their ladder finish, but have the inner belief they can turn things around.

“There’s a lot of investment in this year - both physical and emotional,” Beveridge told Gerard Whateley and Jack Riewoldt on Fox Footy last night.

“None of us sit here and are dishonest when we say that we’re not disappointed we’re not in the top two basically.

“We didn’t make top four, and so when you try and find a positive out of all of that, we identify with the fact that we finished fifth, we made some inroads, and we’ve beaten a lot of the better sides throughout the course, so it gives us that belief behind the scenes.”

The Bulldogs are a living example that anything is possible from outside the top four – having timed their run to the 2016 flag perfectly, despite finishing in seventh position.

Beveridge said the results of the last three weeks can affect them in one of two ways.

“We’ve become a little bit vulnerable in recent times, and we’ve succumbed to teams that have picked at that,” Beveridge said.

“That can have an effect and prepare us for now, or prepare us for the future – but we believe we’re strong enough it’s going to prepare us for now.

“We’re looking at this Sunday as an opportunity to keep going.

“It’s our drive to remain, and push to the line, and be around for the next month.”

The Bulldogs will confirm their elimination final team of 22 and four emergencies tonight at 5pm.
