The Western Bulldogs will welcome back over 950 games of experience for Saturday night’s Elimination Final against Adelaide.
Captain Bob Murphy, Matthew Boyd, Dale Morris, Will Minson and Lin Jong have all been included in the side to face the Crows at the MCG.
Four of the quintet – Murphy, Boyd, Morris, Minson – have past AFL Finals experience.
Murphy, Boyd and Morris all missed the round 23 clash against Brisbane with minor injuries, but have all proven their fitness to take the field on Saturday night.
Assistant coach Daniel Giansiracusa said the trio would provide invaluable experience for the side.
“(Not just) massive parts of our team, but our Club, it’s great to have a bit of experience back out there.
“They’re really excited, they’re refreshed after a week off and can’t wait to get out there.”
Minson returns for his first senior game since round 15, to replace the injured Jordan Roughead, and Giansiracusa expects the ruckman to make the most of his chance.
“He had a really good performance in the VFL last week against some quality opponents, against the Box Hill Hawks.
“Unfortunately Roughie goes down with his injury but Will comes in and gets his opportunity, he can’t wait, he’s jumping out of his skin.”
Jong is the final inclusion for the Dogs, after impressing against Box Hill in the VFL last weekend.
Jong enjoyed a stellar VFL finals series in 2014, and Giansiracusa expects the midfielder to bring that enthusiasm again.
“We’re calling him Mr September, he was fantastic in the VFL finals last year, he was our best player in the VFL on the weekend.
“He looks like he’s got his spring and his power back and hopefully he can bring that on Saturday night.”
Giansiracusa is adamant his side won’t be affected by the excitement of finals football, but will be focused on the match.
“They’ve been pretty focused the boys.
“They’re excited but by no means do they think this is the end of our season and we’re happy to make up the numbers so we’re looking to put a really strong performance in and get the victory on Saturday night against a quality opponent in the Adelaide Crows.”
Roughead (foot), Jason Johannisen (calf), Lukas Webb, Zaine Cordy and Brett Goodes (all omitted) come out of the side, while Tom Boyd, Bailey Dale and Michael Talia have been named as emergencies.
