The Bulldogs will reveal their top pick from the 2014 AFL Draft on Saturday night, with Toby McLean to make his debut against Port Adelaide.
McLean was taken at number 26 in the 2014 NAB AFL National Draft and has spent the start of the season playing across half-forward for Footscray.
Jake Stringer and Stewart Crameri have also been named to take on the Power, with both players returning after missing the Giants match last weekend.
Bulldogs senior assistant coach Brett Montgomery said all three would be valuable inclusions, including McLean who will be the fourth debutant for the Club this year, after Lukas Webb, Bailey Dale and Joel Hamling.
“A lot of our supporters wouldn’t have seen much of Toby unless they were at Footscray games.
“He’s a great young kid… he’s got an incredible leap and he brings excitement to games and he’s been in great form.
“He plays wing, he plays half forward, he’s nice and hard at it and he’s got good skills so we expect him to play, and play a big part.”
Stringer has recovered from a virus that caused him to be a late withdrawal, while Crameri has pulled up well after missing round nine due to adductor soreness.
“(Stringer) was in great form going out… He’s a good player to get back.
“We’re looking forward to him coming back and enjoying the form he had prior (to missing).
“Stewy’s role’s evolved this year. It’s good to get him back on a big ground, it’s a long ground.
“He’s another big body into the team and a bit of maturity.”
While the away trip to Adelaide presents a tough challenge, Montgomery says his side have gained confidence from their earlier season interstate win against Sydney.
“It’s a different venue, it’s a really loud venue, it’s a pretty hostile place to play footy which I think most of our guys are looking forward to.
“As a group (the Sydney win) it’s an enormous confidence boost. I know it game them great confidence that no task is too big, particularly on the road and we’re up against it this week.”
Both sides have seen a focus on defensive play this season, with the Dogs second in the competition for tackles and Port third.
The battle across the half-back lines looms as the most interesting of the match, with Port number one for rebound 50s, while Bulldogs’ half-backs Easton Wood, Bob Murphy, Jason Johannisen and Matthew Boyd have been in blistering form.
“We really respect them and we love what they do off half back and their running power,” said Montgomery.
“(But) our guys have really adapted that to our game, we’re a different unit off half back these days.”
Marcus Bontempelli (adductor), Liam Picken (hamstring) and Shane Biggs (omitted) will make way for Stringer, Crameri and McLean.
