When the Bulldogs claimed another scalp in the Gold Coast Suns on Saturday, Nathan Hrovat had plenty to cheer about - producing a career best performance in his team’s 28-point win.
The young Dog played an instrumental role rotating between the midfield and half forward, finishing with a career best 27 touches and three scoreboard influences.
“[It was a] fantastic win today,” Hrovat said.
“Obviously coming up to Cairns playing the Gold Coast isn’t easy – we knew coming off the game in the slush in Geelong, coming up to sunny Cairns was going to be different.
“It was a great four quarter performance today by the boys.”
The Suns have built a reputation on being a strong clearance team and just as importantly they are damaging with their run and spread. Pleasingly, the Bulldogs bettered them in both areas on Saturday.
Posting +7 clearances, +26 contested possessions and +91 uncontested possessions, the Bulldogs not only restricted the Suns’ output but were clinical while in possession themselves.
“We knew they were good on the inside and good on the spread, so we planned all week to make sure they didn’t get that out easily,” he said.
“I think we did that quite well – it obviously showed throughout the day.
“I think we complied with that and it helped us get the win.”
Of his own performance, Hrovat said he was happy to have contributed to the team’s win, while adding another strong performance to his resume.
“[I’m] just chipping away, he said, “…I just tried to play my role for the team and went from there.”
“Obviously it’s good to get a bit of the pill but more importantly just doing the team things.”
